Dear Friends,
Unremarkable….a plainly dressed little girl clearly focused on the parade. It didn’t matter that no one but her parents on the crowded streets of Sugarcreek, Ohio knew her. Or that she had been adopted by an Amish family. It didn’t matter that she had special needs related to ‘Angelman syndrome’.
All she knew was that the man riding in the lead red convertible at the Swiss Festival Parade
knew her and waved. Then the car stopped. Moments later this ordinary little bystander was given a front row seat in a red convertible in a parade. No longer an unremarkable bystander but chosen out of the crowd.
Being chosen. There is nothing more solitary. It’s between you and the one with the influence and the authority to choose. It’s personal, raw and real.
None of us have escaped this arbitrary exchange. Chosen to join the club. Chosen to keep a
secret. Chosen for the final interview. Chosen to dance. Chosen to deliver the life changing
news. Chosen to speak in honor of a friend. Chosen to play the role that no one else wants to
play. Chosen to…chosen for…etc. Choosing and being chosen is for us and for God
Himself “personal, raw and real.”
“You did not choose me, but I have chosen you.” (Jesus) John 15:16
No matter your place in the crowd along the parade route, no matter how plain or ordinary or broken. You’ve been chosen. You belong to Him…remarkable!
