Dear Friends,
Walking on a bed of 400-degree red hot coals! That’s what this tall elderly man was doing in a marketplace in Butajira, Ethiopia. Curiosity drew me into the group of onlookers, and I was fascinated by what I saw. When I put my hand near the bed of coals the searing heat was apparent. But no burned feet.
Was this magic or due to some special gift? Or to some special adhesive he had applied to his feet? Or some kind of spiritual voodoo?
None of these.
It was due to what this man had equipped himself with… an understanding of thermal conductivity. Embers, along with the water/sweat of the feet, are a very poor conductor of heat. So as long as he stepped on the embers, (and didn’t linger!), he would feel the heat but not be burnt.
It was all about how he had equipped himself… with the knowledge of what was actually at work versus what he could have assumed.
You and I have been equipped for this season and every season for walking in hard places that are foreign and unpleasant. It’s a tempting place to default to feelings and assumptions about what’s going on.
But God has equipped you and me with a certain knowledge for functioning as people of our Heavenly Father no matter what’s going on.
We are “thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:17
Enjoy this day,
~Wynn
