Dear Friends,
New Hope Academy, a pre-K–6 school in Franklin, TN, was cited by former president George W. Bush in an address to the nation during his term in office. He highlighted New Hope Academy’s exceptional example of transformative education being delivered across all boundaries.
Two drinking fountains are located in the main hallway of New Hope. A simple but prominent message hangs above each fountain, “EVERYBODY ONLY”.
“Everybody Only”, like all other oxymorons, states a truth beyond words… like “perfect imperfections”, “a sweet sorrow”, a “terrible beauty”, a “cruel kindness”, etc.
The Gospel is a kind of oxymoron, a means for getting at the “truth beyond words”. The gospel, meaning God’s “good news”, is for “Everybody Only”. Across all boundaries. No one is excluded who knows his or her brokenness and who seeks a life of meaning and hope. The gospel is an “Everybody Only” drink of life-giving water for thirsty people.
