Dear Friends,
Underwater and running out of breath. Holding on and desperate for oxygen. It feels like forever, yet it is likely less than a minute. The average person can hold their breath for less than two minutes. The “breath holding” record is just over 22 minutes. Holding on in some cases can be very personal… life and death.
The recent fires on the west coast and the ravages of CV-19 are forcing tens of thousands of people to hold on… people rescued by helicopters hanging on to life support ropes, hanging on to businesses and homes and holding on to loved ones and holding on to hope.
The media has made a TV sensation of American Gladiators holding on, hanging on, and not losing their grip. We are drawn to people who have found a way to hold on against all challenges. But sometimes not.
Life throws each of us unexpected challenges to hang on. But there will be times when we can no longer hold on. No matter the average hang time… we lose our grip. That’s when we need Someone to hold us, to grip us, to “hold us fast.”
“Now to him who is able to keep you from falling…” Jude 1:24
“I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ has laid hold of me.” Philippians 3:12
Trust God’s grip on you and have a great day.
