Dear Friends,
The word wasn’t in our vocabularies 18 months ago. Now Covid-19 dominates our thoughts and our conversations. It is mysterious, disruptive, costly, painful, overwhelming, indiscriminate, deadly. We know little about it but know it changes lives and that we need to take notice.
A pandemic is traditionally defined as a disease that has spread across a country or is global. However, strictly speaking, a pandemic can be more than a disease. It is anything that impacts “all (pan) people (demos).” A pandemic comes in all sorts of shapes and kinds… a pandemic of fear, a pandemic of trust, a pandemic of poverty, a pandemic of hope, etc.
There is an exchange between Susan and Mr. Beaver in C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, “Is He safe?” asks Susan. “Who said anything about safe? Cause He isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
Man’s history begins and ends with an Author King whose “pandemic story” does not always feel safe to us… but He is always good, always caring… especially in the chaos.
“The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” Psalm 145:9
God’s “pandemic story” of His goodness and grace to you this day.
