Dear Friends,
In 1934 Earl and Lillian Congdon founded Old Dominion Freight Line with a single truck running between Richmond, VA and Norfolk, VA. Today they have over 20,000 employees with service beyond the US into Mexico, Europe and China.
Their corporate promise to every customer is painted in bold lettering on the side of every truck… “Helping the world keep promises.” No doubt you’ve passed these trucks and the promise they make.
That’s a tall promise to make and keep. Samuel Johnson, English poet and playwright, is quoted as saying, “Hell is paved with good intentions.”
But there are promises that have been made and kept, every one of them. They’ve originated in the One who created the moral universe we live in. Promises not “paved with good intentions” but on a costly exchange of One life for ours.
Scripture records over 3,400 promises that God makes to His children.
A small sample of promises for the journey you and I are on…
- “Fear not, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you…” Isaiah 41:10
- “…He who has begun a good work in you will bring it to completion on the day of Christ Jesus…” Philippians 1:6
- “As far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our sins from us.” Psalm 103:12
- “You, O Lord, will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.” Isaiah 26:3
Hit the road with 3,400+ more promises and their Keeper.
