Dear Friends,
Legendary songwriter, singer, composer, pianist Billy Joel has never been confused with being a theologian. But hear the words that he uses in one of his hit songs, “My Life”:
I don’t need you to worry for me ’cause I’m alright.
I don’t want you to tell me it’s time to come home.
I don’t care what you say anymore, this is my life.
Go ahead with your life, leave me alone.
I never said you had to offer me a second chance.”
Not likely your choice for Christmas card lyrics. But the inverse themes of “My Life” are embedded in the Christmas message…
God doesn’t “worry” about us, but He redeems and restores us as Healer.
God knows we’re not “alright” so He comes as our Savior.
God sees our wanderings, so he calls us to follow Him home as our Shepherd.
God cannot “go ahead” and “leave us alone” for He is our Father.
God doesn’t offer a “second chance” but He takes no chances on our knowing Him and trusting Him with our lives… begun in a Bethlehem stable.
I wish for each of you a very Merry Christmas.
~Wynn
