Dear Friends,
SAD, the acronym for Separation Anxiety Disorder, is not a condition most of us grew up with or knew about. But we likely experienced some form of separation as a natural part of our development between six months and six years of age. Perhaps when our parents left for a brief getaway, or we were dropped off at school or camp.
Being separated from someone with whom we have a strong emotional attachment gets to the core of who we are. When we see or personally experience the emotional separations brought about by the war in Ukraine, or by the Covid pandemic, or by the flood waters in Kentucky, our hearts are moved. These kinds of separations are not part of the normal developmental process but are a part of “life’s domain” where we need hope and where God never intended for us to “go it alone.”
So, God has assured each of us, whether in a time of natural development or in a time of crisis:
“I look behind me and You are there, then up ahead and You are there too. Your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful. I can’t take it all in!” Psalm 139:5-6
“NOTHING IN ALL OF CREATION, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38
Take this in… it is God’s heart for you.
