Dear Friends,
The sculpture is famous and you’ve likely seen photos of it. It depicts a person sitting on a bench slumped over with a giant hole in the center… the entire chest cavity is missing. For obvious reasons it is known as “Melancholy” or the “Emptiness Statue.”
The “Emptiness Statue” was created by Romanian born artist, Albert Gyorgy, following the loss of his wife and the resulting emptiness that he felt. Later, much later, Gyorgy shared that he was given a “second slope of his life” where he was able to have hope.
This Easter season… the chaos of the crucifixion, the emptiness of the empty tomb, the reality of the resurrection… a “second slope” is made possible for you and me through the One who “emptied himself” on our behalf and hope is born. From Philippians 2:7.
“There is nothing that belonged to God that man didn’t have when Jesus emptied himself into man.”—Tony Evans, author/pastor
Welcome and enjoy the gift of this “second slope” borne out of Easter’s empty tomb.
