This Day, That Day

by | May 1, 2023

Dear Friends,

This and that. These and those. Parts of the English vocabulary that can make all the difference in our lives. “This road is open.” “You can totally trust that person.” “This certificate is all you will need.” “That is the correct medicine.”

Somewhere along the way in our education (perhaps Miss Eberwine) we were told, “this and that are grammatical ‘demonstratives’. We use these words to point to people, places, events and things.”

Martin Luther, when imprisoned and his life threatened, was asked how he was coping, is said to have responded, “I live between two words, this and that. I have this day assured. And on this day, I look forward to that day when I shall be united with my Savior and Lord.”

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

In that day…when the Lord shall bind up the wounds of his people, yea, when He shall make whole, all their wounds.” Isaiah 30:23, 26

May the God of “this day and that day” be your confidence and hope for “everyday”.
